ARUNACHAL PRADESH                                                                          

Arunachal finds mention in the literature of Kalika Purana and Mahabharata. This place is supposed to be the Prabhu Mountains of the Puranas, The widely scattered archeological remains at different places in Arunachal bears testimony to its rich cultural heritage. Arunachal Pradesh, a serene land tucked into the North Eastern tip of India , invites you to relax in its picturesque hills and valleys, enjoy its salubrious climate and meet its simple and hospitable people, with their glorious heritage of arts and crafts and colourful festivals that reflect their ancient faith in the inexorable power of nature. The visitor has a wide variety of options to pick from. There are places of worship and piligrimage such as Parasuramkund and 400 years old Tawang Monastery, or the sites of archeological excavations like Malinithan and Itanagar. Arunachal Pradesh is considered to be the "nature's treasure trove" and home to orchids, known for their exquisitely beautiful blooms, from one of the dominant more than six hundred species, occurring in varying elevations and climatic conditions throughout the state.

GENERAL INFORMATION

Arunachal Pradesh is situated between 26 o 28' and 29 o 30' North latitudes and  97 o 30' and 97 o 30' East Longitudes covering an area of 83743 sq. km. Bio-geographically it is situated fin the Eastern Himalayan province, the richest biogeographically province of the Himalayan zone. The entire territory forms a complex hill system with varying elevations ranging from 50m in the foot-hills and gradually ascending to about 7000m, traversed throughout by a number of rivers and rivulets.

TOURIST ATTRACTION OF ARUNACHAL PRADESH

ALONG
Along is a small town with beautiful villages. One can visit the Mithun and Jersey Cross Breeding Farm at Kamaki 25 kms away from here. Languages spoken here are Adi, Hindi, Assamese and English

BOMDILA
The onward journey is most adventurous and perhaps the most difficult as Bomdila, the headquarters of the West Kampeng District is at a height of 2,530 mtrs, offering wonderfully panoramic view of Himalayan landscapes and snow clad ranges. There are apple orchards and Buddhist monasteries, for travellers are now entering an area that has had strong Tibetan and Buddhist influence, over the centuries .

DAPORIJO
Daporijo, is a beautiful place on the right bank of Subansiri river with picturesque villages and also to see are the caves(a few kms away). Languages spoken here are Tagin, Hill Miri, Adi(Gallong), Hindi, Assamese and English.

DIRANG
Situated between Bomdila & Tawang, this place is located in the West Kameng district. There are apple orchards and sheep breeding farms. A few kilometres away from Dirang, are the famous hot springs where people go for a holy dip to wash away sins and diseases.



ITANAGAR
The capital of Arunachal Pradesh, is a beautiful historic city, also known as the "Land of the Dawnlit Mountains ". It is located to the east of Tawang and has been identified with Mayapur, a city of the 14th or 15th century A.D. The new township has modern buildings, bazaars and traditional homesteads.

TAWANG
A 10 km drive from Bomdila takes you to Tawang, a Buddhist Pilgrimage site, where the Dalai Lama, the spiritual leader of the Tibetans, goes to preach & pray. The most striking building in this Buddhist village is the tall central monastery, the Tawang Gompa. The 400 year old monastery dominates the valley with grand view of the Himalayas . Prayer flags flutter in the breeze and inside.

TIPI
On the banks of the river Bharali at an elevation of 190 mtrs is Tipi, an orchidarium with over 7500 orchids. On display are some of the finest species with names like the Dainty Lady's Slipper or the more formal sounding Dendrobium. Arunachal has the largest range of orchids in the country.

TEZU
Headquartered in Lohit district, this place Tezu has the Parasuram Kund where, particularly during winter, a fair is held during Makar-Sankranti. Pilgrims from all over the country come here for a holy dip in the kund. There is a large lake called Glow Lake , which can be reached by foot.

ZIRO
Ziro is a small picturesque destination with Pine and Bamboo groves, villages, a craft centre and Tarin Fish Farm which is located at a high altitude and also to see are the indigenous method of rice cultivation. The languages spoken here are Apatani, Nishi, Hindi, Assamese and English.

TREKKING IN ARUNACHAL PRADESH
For the wonderful experience of trekking, there are a few destinations in the world that would match the trekking routes of Arunachal Pradesh. The best trekking season in Arunachal Pradesh is from October to February. The most interesting as well as challenging trek in this region is around Tawang Chu. This trek starts from Jong, the bus-head in between Se- la and Tawang. From Jong to Mago, the trek route passes through a wonderful jungle studded with magnificent waterfalls.
